Pair of podiums in Tennessee doubleheader

Ricky Thornton Jr. spent his Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series off weekend competing in a World of Outlaws Late Model Series doubleheader in Tennessee.

On Friday at Volunteer Speedway’s Rocky Top Rumble, Thornton posted the fastest time in his qualifying group and went on to win his heat before finishing second in the 40-lap feature.

At Smoky Mountain Speedway on Saturday, Thornton again captured a heat race victory and closed out the weekend with a third-place finish in the $20,000-to-win Tennessee Tipoff, joining race-winner Bobby Pierce and runner-up Nick Hoffman on the podium.
