RTJ finishes second in LOLMDS standings

Ricky Thornton Jr. entered Eldora Speedway this past weekend with his sights set on a second consecutive Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) championship, taking on the 45th annual Dirt Track World Championship.

With 59 drivers entered in Friday’s preliminary action, Thornton qualified fourth-fastest in his group and finished second in his heat race—securing a spot in Saturday’s $100,000-to-win DTWC finale.

Lining up eighth on the grid for the 100-lap main event, Thornton climbed as high as fifth before disaster struck on lap 62. A flat right-front tire sent him into the turn-one wall, forcing him to the infield hot pit. Despite losing 14 laps during repairs, he returned and battled back to salvage an 18th-place finish.

Thornton concluded the season second in the LOLMDS Chase for the Championship, earning a $200,000 runner-up prize.
