RTJ drives to second in Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals
Ricky Thornton Jr. took on Knoxville Raceway this past weekend, as the historic half-mile oval — widely known as the Sprint Car Capital of the World — played host to the prestigious Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals.
With 39 competitors entered for the twin preliminary features on Thursday and Friday, Thornton delivered a consistent start to the three-day event. He secured a fourth-place finish on Thursday, followed by a solid sixth-place run in Friday’s program.
Earning a second-row starting spot for Saturday’s $75,000-to-win finale, Thornton advanced two positions during the thrilling 75-lap main event, ultimately claiming a runner-up finish. He shared the podium with race winner Hudson O’Neal and third-place finisher Devin Moran.
Thornton now extends his lead atop the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series point standings, holding a 70-point advantage.
