Fifth in Indiana Icebreaker at Brownstown Speedway
With Friday’s Buckeye Spring 50 shifted to Sunday, Ricky Thornton Jr. kicked off a doubleheader weekend with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) on Saturday with the 27th annual Indiana Icebreaker at Brownstown Speedway (Brownstown, Ind.).
After a mid-pack qualifying effort, Ricky stormed into the $15,000-to-win A-Main with a seventh-to-second run in his heat. Rolling off on the third row, Thornton muscled forward one spot in the 50-lap affair to register a fifth-place finish. He trailed Devin Moran, Bobby Pierce, Mike Marlar, and Max Blair across the line.
For Sunday’s Buckeye Spring 50 at Atomic Speedway (Chillicothe, Ohio), Thornton stopped-the-clock fourth-fastest in his group before placing second in his heat race. With a $12,000 top prize up for grabs in the main event, Thornton posted an eighth-place finish.
Ricky holds a five-point lead atop the latest LOLMDS point standings.
