Thornton finishes sixth in Tulsa Shootout Winged Outlaw finale
Ricky Thornton Jr.’s final start of the 2025 season doubled as the opening chapter of his 2026 campaign this past weekend, as the Chandler, Arizona native took on the 41st annual Hyper Racing Tulsa Shootout powered by NOS Energy Drink at the Tulsa (Okla.) Expo Center’s SageNet Center.
The marquee event shattered records, drawing more than 2,000 entries across five days of competition and 433 races. Thornton wasted no time making his presence felt, opening the week with a victory in the Stock Non-Wing division, leading all eight laps of the event. Later that evening, he charged from sixth to first in A-Class competition, putting himself in a strong position in the early points standings.
Thornton continued his momentum on New Year’s Eve, capturing his Winged Outlaw heat race and finishing third in the Non-Wing Outlaw heat to close out 2025 on a high note.
On New Year’s Day, Thornton turned in a trio of solid qualifier performances, finishing fourth in Winged Outlaw, sixth in Stock Non-Wing, and fifth in A-Class. His Winged Outlaw result locked him into Saturday’s championship finale.
A consolation victory on Friday kept Thornton’s Non-Wing Outlaw hopes alive, sending him into Saturday’s final night with a full slate of racing across all four divisions. He earned starting positions in both the Winged Outlaw and A-Class feature events, while B-Main finishes brought his night to an end in the Non-Wing Outlaw and Stock Non-Wing classes.
Thornton’s weekend was highlighted by a sixth-place finish in the 30-lap Winged Outlaw main event. His A-Class run ended on lap 15, bringing his Tulsa Shootout weekend to a close.
