Thornton fourth in Pittsburgher at PPMS
Ricky Thornton Jr. was among 43 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) competitors in action at Pittsburgh Pennsylvania Motor Speedway over the weekend, as the half-mile oval hosted the 37th annual Pittsburgher.
Thornton kicked off Friday’s program with a heat race win, locking him into the opener. However, misfortune struck early in the main event when a flat tire while leading on lap 15 forced him to the pits. Rejoining from the tail, Thornton mounted an impressive recovery to salvage a ninth-place finish.
He returned on Saturday with another solid showing, finishing second in his heat before capping the weekend with a fourth-place finish in the 70-lap, $50,000-to-win finale. He crossed the line behind Jonathan Davenport, Max Blair, and Devin Moran, with Brandon Sheppard rounding out the top five.
