RTJ attends Modified World Championship at Mississippi Thunder Speedway

Ricky Thornton Jr. returned to his Modified roots over the weekend, piloting the Rodney Sanders-owned No. 20RT entry in the inaugural Modified World Championship at Mississippi Thunder Speedway.

With more than 90 entries on hand for the high-stakes event, which offered a six-figure payday in Saturday’s finale, Thornton opened the weekend with an eighth-place finish in Thursday’s preliminary feature. On Friday, a spin while running fourth in the second prelim sent him to the tail, but he rallied to salvage a sixth-place finish.

Thornton’s weekend came to an early end on Saturday after a blown engine in his B-Main dashed his hopes of contending for the $100,025 top prize.
