Transmission issues surface in Diamond Nationals at Wheatland

With the first two events of the tripleheader weekend rained out, Ricky Thornton Jr. returned with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) on Saturday afternoon at Lucas Oil Speedway (Wheatland, Mo.) for the 15th annual CMH Diamond Nationals. With lingering rain delaying the program for several hours, Ricky recorded a fifth-place finish in his heat before picking up a 10-lap consolation victory. Starting the $15,000-to-win A-Main in 17th, Thornton Jr. ran into mechanical issues with his transmission that saw him retire early on lap 21. (Heath Lawson photo)
