Podium finish in Rumble by the River prelim

Ricky Thornton Jr. and SSI Motorsports were back on the road with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) on Thursday afternoon at Port Royal Speedway (Port Royal, Pa.) as the three-day Rumble by the River got underway. With 43 Late Models entered, Ricky laid down the fifth fastest time in his group before placing second in his heat. Starting the $10,000-to-win preliminary feature in sixth, Thornton improved three spots in the 30-lapper to register a third-place finish. He trailed Hudson O’Neal and Jonathan Davenport to the checkers with Shane Clanton and Tim McCreadie rounding out the Top-5. (Heath Lawson photo)

For another preliminary event on Friday, Thornton’s third-place finish in his heat race positioned him 11th on the starting grid for the A-Main. After getting collected in a lap-25 tangle, Ricky limped across the line in 17th.

Saturday’s $30,000-to-win Rumble by the River finale was cancelled by persistent rain.

Ricky sits in seventh in the latest LOLMDS point standings.
