Ricky Thornton Jr
Fifth-place finish in LOLMDS debut at Circle City Raceway
Reigning Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) champion Ricky Thornton Jr. returned to action with the national tour on Friday evening as the series made its debut at Circle City Raceway in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Thornton secured a heat race victory to lock into the 50-lap feature, where he slipped two positions over the course of the race to record a fifth-place finish.
With Saturday’s Ralph Latham Memorial at Florence Speedway canceled due to inclement weather, Thornton and the Koehler Motorsports team made an overnight trip to Mississippi Thunder Speedway to join the World of Outlaws Real American Beer Late Model Series for the Dairyland Showdown.
After narrowly transferring into the $30,000-to-win A-Main with a runner-up finish in the B-Main, Thornton’s night was cut short when he retired on lap 32 of the 50-lap feature, leaving him 24th in the final rundown.
